How Fylnest works.

Short answers on getting files in and out. Still stuck? Email hello@fylnest.com.

Connect a computer and drives

Install the Fylnest app on the computer your drives are plugged into, then sign in to the Fylnest portal and choose Connect a computer. Once paired, the computer and its drives show up under My drives, with free space and an online/offline dot.

You can browse folders, upload files, create folders and download from any connected drive through the portal.

Share files with a link

Pick a file or folder and create a share link. The person you send it to opens the link and downloads; they don’t need an account. Under Share links you can see your active links, how often they’ve been downloaded, and turn any link off.

Send us stuff (upload links)

Need a client to send you something big? Choose Send us stuff, pick the drive and folder the files should land in, and optionally add a label, an expiry date (7, 30 or 90 days, or never) and a size limit. You get a link to send to your client.

Your client drops files onto the page, sees each file’s size and an estimated upload time, can remove files they didn’t mean to add, and presses Start upload. Files go only into the folder you chose; your client can’t see or open anything else, and nothing gets overwritten. You can turn a link off at any time.

Upload links to your own drive only work while that computer is online.

Line speed and transfer time

The Transfer time tool estimates how long a file or set of files will take to upload or download. Press Test my line to measure your connection, or type in the speed you know you have.

The test measures your connection to a nearby speed server, so treat the result as a guide. A full test uses a few hundred megabytes of data, so don’t run it constantly on a capped connection.

Two-step verification

Open your avatar menu and choose Two-step verification. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app, confirm with a code, and save the 10 backup codes somewhere safe. After that, signing in (with a password or with Google) asks for a code too. Turning it off needs your password and a code.

Why does it say “computer offline”?

Files on your own drive are served by your computer. If it’s asleep, switched off or disconnected, share links and upload links for that drive wait until it’s back. Keep the computer awake while people are downloading or uploading, or put the files in Fylnest cloud instead.
